Frequently Asked Questions:

QWhere's the best place to get information on tropical storms or hurricanes that may be near Puerto Peñasco?
A:  The best site we've found is the National Hurricane Center.  They update the status every few hours and it seems most of the weather services rely on them for the information.  Highly recommended!

QWhat do my dues pay for?  I only own raw land and think $50 is too much to pay each month.
A:  The $50 figure comes from the Board's evaluation of what everyone's fair share is to pay for the various services of the Association.  Unimproved lot owners benefit from all services that improved lot owners do, with the exception of water delivery.  For example, trash pickup insures the development remains free of the tremendous amount of trash generated by all of the activity - whether it be by construction or human waste.  Security insures that investments are protected - both from breakins but also maintaining the high standards of the community.  These high standards are responsible for property values being higher in La Jolla than in neighboring developments.

QWhat about propane service?
A:  The Beach Club Board has determined that propane service is not provided by the Association at this time. There are two issues that make this service difficult to provide. One, the cash-flow is rather enormous when you consider that some owners do not pay their dues in a timely way. Second, the propane truck drivers seem to consistently overcharge for the propane delivered.  If the Beach Club is involved, then we would be spending quite a bit of time trying to figure that out – not exactly a good use of resources when we have so much work to do.

What we ARE doing is that if you are in need of propane, tell any of the guards or Andy, the person who maintains the pool, and they will insure that when a propane truck comes through the development, they wills stop at your house. You should be prepared with cash, since they only intermittently accept US checks. The trucks generally come through most days. However, if you are in a hurry, you can call HidroGas directly at 38-32630 to order a delivery.

QI see a lot of people have paid their special assessments and monthly dues, but many others have not.  Why should I?
A:  Participation in the new association, via these payments, is growing steadily.  Most people, when they hear that the goal is to return Playa La Jolla to its former vision of an exclusive community and protect each owner's investment, quickly come on board.  When everyone is paying their "fair share", the association will have some real options as to how to improve the common areas for the benefit of all owners.  To see who is already "onboard", click on this link for a current list of who is a "charter member".

QWhy is the Board collecting back dues from Nov 1, 2000?
A
:  When Fiesta Prop took over the Assoc services, there was a general "Amnesty" granted at that time - everyone started with a "0" balance on that day.  The Board strongly feels that we have only gotten this far in our formation due to the efforts of those who WERE paying along the way, and new members should be accountable to those back dues.  In actuality, all back dues collected go right towards common area improvement, so all members benefit!

QWhat can I do to help?
A:  Make sure you maintain a current account with the Beach Club.  All of this activity unfortunately costs $$ - which can be kept to a reasonable level if everyone pays their fair share.  Also, make sure you participate on a 2003 committee and find other ways to contribute.

Q:  Why does the board use Adobe Acrobat formatted documents, which makes me download special software to be able to read them?
A:  The webmaster has experimented with various formats and almost all of them change when viewed on different computers.  If you've ever had someone send you a document and when you open it, the formatting is all messed up, that's the issue.  Adobe "Portable Document Format, or PDF" is the ONLY format that maintains all formatting EXACTLY as it is written.  When you print a PDF document on your computer, it looks EXACTLY the same as on everyone else's.  This has become the defacto standard way to share documents on the web.  We highly encourage you to download and install this free software as a useful tool for your browsing experience.  Simply go to Adobe's site and follow the instructions!

Other questions?  Send a note to the webmaster!  We'll get them answered and if general in nature, perhaps added to this list above.
